The richest 1 percent of individuals captured twice as much of the world’s income growth than the poorest 50 percent between 1980 and 2016, according to new research from Berkeley Economics Thomas Piketty, Emmanuel Saez, and Gabriel Zucman and co-authors Facundo Alvaredo and Lucas Chancel. The paper combined survey, national accounts, and tax data to better estimate the growth of global incomes and inequality. Read more
