First-Time applicants

The following checklist contains the requirements from first-time applicants to the Department of Economics:

  1. Graduate Admissions Application (complete ALL parts online)
  2. All supporting documents i.e. copies of offices transcripts, 3 letters of recommendation, GRE Scores, and TOEFL Scores (if applicable) MUST be submitted via the online Graduate Application.
  3. Nonrefundable application fee paid online

Reactivation of an application submitted within the last two years

The following checklist contains the requirements from applicants reactivating a graduate application submitted to the UC Berkeley Department of Economics within the last two years. If you applied over two years ago, please use instead the checklist for first-time applicants:

  1. Graduate Admissions Application (complete ALL parts online)
  2. All supporting documents i.e. copies of offices transcripts, 3 letters of recommendation, GRE Scores, and TOEFL Scores (if applicable) MUST be submitted via the online Graduate Application.
  3. Please upload onto your application all institutions where you have completed any academic work since your last application
  4. Nonrefundable application fee paid online

Previous and Current UC Berkeley Graduate Students

The following checklist contains the requirements from applicants who are previous UC Berkeley Graduate Students seeking to gain readmission into the university and change of major or current UC Berkeley Graduate Students who are seeking a change of major.

  1. Graduate Admissions Application (complete ALL parts online)
  2. All supporting documents i.e. copies of offices transcripts, 3 letters of recommendation, GRE Scores, and TOEFL Scores (if applicable) MUST be submitted via the online Graduate Application.
  3. Nonrefundable readmissions application fee is required for previous UC Berkeley students seeking readmission into the university.
  4. Current UC Berkeley students seeking a change of major will not need to pay an application fee.
  5. Graduate Petition for Change of Major or Degree Goal
    (You must obtain approval from their current department before submitting the petition to the Department of Economics. This is only required for current/continuing students in other majors.) You can submit this to the economics graduate office.
