This course will provide a broad introduction to political economy, going over both theoretical and empirical questions as well as research methods. The class will also introduce students to historical political economy and comparative political economy. The class will cover a wide range of topics: collective choice, voting behavior, turnout, disenfranchisement, civil rights, candidates’ and politicians’ behavior and accountability, political selection, money and politics, climate and politics, protests, news media and social media, and institutions.
